1999 — Founding of SEGWAY
The company later known as Segway was founded by the renowned inventor Dean Kamen.
2002 — SEGWAY PT goes on sale
November — the Segway PT goes on sale to the general public through Amazon.com. The Segway HT was named “Best New Science Invention of the Year” in 2002 by POPULAR SCIENCE magazine.
2004 — ATV production begins
November — the four-wheel concept prototype Segway “Centaur” was featured in TIME magazine as one of the “Best Inventions of 2004”.
2005 — Launch of the off-road transporter
March — Segway announces its first off-road models, the Segway (XT) and the Golf Transporter (GT), equipped with extended-range lithium-ion batteries, all-terrain tyres, a rugged fender design and specially tuned software for off-road riding.
2009 — A new PATROLLER announced
May — drawing on input from experienced law-enforcement and security professionals, Segway introduces two new Patroller models that give public-safety officers an operational edge, providing greater visibility and improving community policing and safety programmes.
2012 — Launch of the ARTI robotic mobility platform
October — Segway launches ARTI, its latest Robotics Mobility Platform (RMP) prototype.
2014 — Launch of the three-wheel PATROLLER
May — Segway launches its first three-wheel personal transporter, the SE-3 Patroller, for the public-safety market.
2015 — Strategic merger of SEGWAY and NINEBOT
April — Segway and Ninebot Inc. complete a strategic merger; the company now focuses on R&D, manufacturing, sales and after-sales service in the transportation industry.
2019 — SEGWAY enters the powersports market
At EICMA in Milan, Segway Powersports unveils three series of off-road vehicles with a hybrid powertrain, entering the powersports industry.
